The Grand Cherokee is available in two trim levels, Laredo and Limited. The Laredo comes standard with a 3.7-liter V6 that produces 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque, while the Limited is equipped with a 4.7-liter V8 capable of pumping out 230 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. Optional on the Limited is the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, which produces 330 hp and 375 lb-ft of torque. All three engines come standard with a five-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive grabs pavement with gusto and on tight roads this SUV is very nimble with minimal body roll. Even though the raucous multidisplacement Hemi provides gobs of low-end thrust, the 3.7-liter V6 and 4.7-liter V8 are silky-smooth.

The four-door Cherokee is offered in three trim levels: Sport, Limited and Renegade. Two engines available a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder that generates 150 horses and 165 pound-feet of torque, a 3.7-liter V6 rated at 210 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. The V6 provides good acceleration but drinks plenty at the gas pump. Like other Jeeps, the Cherokee is a sensational off-roader. Its performance on pavement is tolerable enough, but the steering is heavy and numb, and the Cherokee exhibits considerable body roll around corners.

The regular-length Wrangler comes as a two-door sport-ute in four trims: SE, X, Sport and Rubicon. An extended-wheelbase Unlimited also has two doors and comes in standard and Rubicon trims. SE models are powered by a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual transmission. This engine kicks out 147 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque, and is also available with a four-speed automatic transmission. All other trim levels are powered by a more vigorous 4.0-liter inline six-cylinder that cranks out 190 horses and 235 lb-ft of torque. The new six-speed manual transmission is standard with this engine, but a four-speed automatic transmission is optional. On the street, its small size and tight turning radius make it fun to maneuver, but it can get a little scary at freeway speeds in high crosswinds. However, there's no denying its performance off-road. The suspension allows for an incredible amount of wheel articulation that's further aided by steep approach and departure angles. The added hardware on the Rubicon model makes it one of the most capable off-road vehicles you can buy.
